Calibrating a moisture meter?

Here is a manual on calibrating for particle board but it did have a fornula for use on page 7

So you would test the wood you have then oven dry it and then use the formula to calculate the original MC. Then check it with you test.

I have a Lignomat DX/C meter and the MFG states that it does an internal calibration when being used. So I can’t be of any help there.

What meter did you get.

I did a search on Google and there are a lot of references and a link to a MFG web site that has a way to calibrate theres.

A regular oven is better and a decent scale will work. You can buy a good inexpensive digital scale from Harbor Freight or similar venue. That is a common technique before moisture meters. Lignomat and Delmhorst sell calibration test blocks for their meters, which is what we use. Do not believe they can be used on just any brand meter. Basically a resistor calibrated to give a specific reading. The weighing method works but is slow. Buy a brand that sells the test block. On the other hand the meter is more to make sure your wood is of the same reading for balanced construction.
