Having received a moisture meter for Christmas I was wondering if there is a way to validate the readings it is giving? My first thought was to take a piece of wood measure the moisture content with the meter then weigh it (I have a pretty good balance here so I think I can get a good measure of the mass) then microwave the sample until it is ‘drier’ measure the mass again and then re measure with the moisture meter. I am hopeful that the change in mass is proportional to the change in moisture reading. This is assuming that the microwaving will dry out the wood. I should be able to calculate the moisture content from the change in mass, shouldn’t I? I’d sure appreciate any assistance on this. Thanks in advance.
