Happy New Year.
For Christmas, I bought my wife a rug hooking kit. She liked it. A lot. She finished the kit in 3 evenings and I took her to the shop that I bought it from. She spent a hundred dollars on wool and stuff and I’m pretty happy about it. As I spend money on tools and such, she hasn’t done much in the way of hobbies since we bought a cafe 8 years ago. Anyways, when I bought the kit for her I also bought a wooden hoop to hold the burlap backing taut while she hooks the wool through it. Well as it turns out, this isn’t the best way to hook a rug unless you have three hands. I saw a nice floor standing model there for $250.00. Well, she didn’t want to spend money on that. They also had lap frames that were pretty hideous and had carpet tack strips facing up around the edges to stretch the burlap over. I thought that my wifes forearms would get awfully scratched up from that.
Soooo, Anyone out there hook rugs? What do you use to hold your material? I know I can build something, I’m just seeing if there are any existing designs or experience out there before I start.
