First off, I’m an idiot. Probably should leave it at that. Anyways, I had to cut a couple bevels on my tablesaw last night. That meant that I took off the zero clearance plate and put the factory one back on. No problem. Switched them back when done. Later, I started hearing a metallic rattling sound when I turned the saw on and during use. Worried that the blade wasn’t secure, I started checking for the problem. 20 minutes pass and I can find nothing wrong as I’m looking into the cabinet. The sound is there, but I can’t find it. Long story short, I’m sitting on my stool with the saw running thinking about what to do. I then see the factory plate hiding by the fence vibrating ever so softly. GRRRR. 20 minutes with my head in the saw and the problem is on top. Never would of thought it though. The vibration won’t drop a nickel, but it’ll make some music apparently.

Don’t you hate those little time wasters?... I’m glad it wasn’t anything that caused any injury to you or the saw…

I agree with Steve. This is one of those minor annoyances but just be glad it wasn’t something major.

Thanks for the story.

At least we can sit back and laugh at ourselves! I’m usually just glad that I was able to find it myself instead of having someone else point it out to me. :)

Okay, since we’re confessing our stupid moments, here’s one in my journal.

About two years ago, I was in a bit of a rush and had to stop by my office. I parked the car in the drive near the front door, I mean, I was only going to be there for a minute, right? WRONG!!! Oh, I was in and out of the office in under sixty seconds but for the life of me I could not get the car restarted. Nothing, I mean, NOTHING would get it running.

I had lights, so it wasn’t the battery but definitely had to be electrical, right? WRONG AGAIN!!! After half an hour of shrugging my stupidity to people trying to navigate the narrowed lane and another half hour of considering the recombinant espousal of three self-anointed ”car guys” that had walked away scratching their scalps, I had a moment of clarity.

I was leaning on the handrail looking out from the office waiting on AAA and chewing my lip resigned to the day progressing as it had started when I screwed up my posture, pushed out and strolled confidently out to the car, took a seat, buckled my belt, put the car in PARK, cranked it up and canceled the AAA call.

When I was reading your post Jeff I feared the worse. Thought you was heading toward a blade mishap or something worse. Glad all it was, was the only the plate. Sometimes it just happens that way…not stuipid…just headed off the wrong place first.

a old friend of mine told me when working on a car (and not knowing what might be wrong) go for the cheapest things first. That way if you get to the right item it hasn’t cost you a lot of money.

I’ve got a little rattle in one of my band saws. Had it for a year now. Been trying to find it off and on. No success. Maybe some day I’ll find it and then I’ll feel stupid ‘cause I’m sure it’s something simple.
