Last night I wanted to cry. Picked up my Stanley #8 jointer type 9 and the lever cap fell to the ground and the cast lever broke into 4 pieces. So… does anyone know a good source who sells plane parts? I need to find a replacement lever cap. Thanks -- nordichomey |

I have seen people parting out planes on ebay. Also, a vintage tool seller like Patrick Leach gets “donor” planes that may have bad bodies, but other parts are fine. -- Insert clever tag line here |

Also check with walt at brass city records. He sometimes has parts… -- Don't anthropomorphize your handplanes. They hate it when you do that. -- OldTools Archive -- |

Ebay is your best bet. I needed a lever cap for my Bailey #8 and contacted Patrick Leach and a few other places, but no one had one—at least a few weeks ago. I would definitely keep watch on Ebay, but you may have to be patient, unfortunately. In the meantime you can use a lever cap from a 5 1/2, 6, or 7 which is still undersized but works okay. -- "hold fast to that which is good" |

I’ve got a few resources listed here. -- http://timetestedtools.net - Collecting is an investment in the past, and the future. |

One of the sources that Don lists has a #8 lever cap, but it’s going for $59.95 (see here). I would still look around on ebay to try to get one cheaper. -- "hold fast to that which is good" |
