I was just thinking that it might be nice to have some kind of radio button to select which categories to show on the pulse page.

I find myself wading past lots of new projects to find forum topics I am interested in. I much prefer to look at projects away from the pulse page where I can see a thumbnail of the project to decide if I am interested in viewing it.

If we had some sort of a control, like a radio button to turn on/off each type of posting, (Blog, Forum, Project, Workshop. etc) we could make better use of time finding what we are interested in.

Thanks for such a great website and thanks for reading.
Comments/ideas are welcomed.

I think that’s how Martin had the pulse set up in the beginning years;
there’s just so many ways to organize it. For now, there’s always the “Projects” Tab rather than using the pulse for that purpose.

Thanks for the feedback. All ideas are taken into consideration.

It seems lately, the site had been flooded with projects—which is a good thing. I love to see what others are working on. But what that did to the pulse screen was that there were only two forum postings on the first page and the rest were projects. I had to screen three or four pages to find if a forum topic had been commented on. (I usually only “watch” a forum that I am actively commenting on, but follow several forum conversations using the pulse page)

I don’t like to use the pulse page for projects because there is no thumbnail photo there. But it seems to takeover the listings when there are lots and lots of projects.

I don’t use the GENERAL or Overall Pulse page for anything for reasons you’ve stated above. I use it omly for My ”Watch List”. The heading that shows for that is ”LumberJocks Pulse – my watchlist, active in last 24 hours”

Under that Heading is: ” Author——- Latest activity——- New comments or replies since you last checked”

As MsDebbie has suggested if you want to look at Projects just click the ”Projects” Tab.

If you want to see or keep track of Forums just click on the ”Forums” Tab.

You’ll initially get a List of “All Forums”—- “Replies”—- and “Last Post”.

OR. Click on ”Show All Forums”. That will show a List “All Forums”, with their “Topic” on the Right Hand Side. Click on whichever “Forum” you’d like to see or review.

You’ve already said you don’t like to use Pulse for Projects. Why use it for Forums? Given the explanation above?

In your Introduction to this “Forum Post” you state ”(Blog, Forum, Project, Workshop. etc) Those are ALL SEPERATE Tabs. Obviously if you aren’t interested in some of them, you need not click on them.

Perhaps I’m missing the Point you are trying to make??? If so, by all means please clarify.

Regards: Rick

I’m pretty new on this site, so it may just be I don’t fully understand how it all works…

I’m surprised that the forum isn’t set up in ‘topics’ as a couple of the other forums I follow are. It’s nice to be able to check what I’m interested in and not having to wade through absolutely everything that has been posted.

If there is a way to do that here i would appreciate any input that would help me understand how to do that.

Otherwise I like what I see here and look forward to continuing on with it.

Keith

The forum section is divided into thirteen different categories. Click on “Show All Forums” to see the list and then select which category you want to look at. Hope that helps.

Rick, I use the PULSE similar to how you use it … “my watchlist” keeps me up to date on things I have commented on, posted, or have chosen to “watch”.
I then head to the projects and skim through those, and then the blogs, and then the forums…stopping, of course, on anything posted that catches my interest.

But… there are so many ways you can use the site; it’s just a matter of finding the one that best works for you.

Hey Keith:

Did you find everything yet? I think the Key to what you are looking for is as above, but I tend to get a little long winded at times.

To Clarify…... I think this is what you are looking for to see ALL Forum Topics:

” Click on the ”Forums” Tab. You’ll initially get a List of “Start New topic” .... “View all unanswered topics” ... “Show all Forums”.

Click on ”Show All Forums”….. That will show a List of “All Forums”, with their “Topic” on the Left Hand Side. Starting with “Woodworking Skill Share”..... The other 12 “Forum Topics” are below that. Just lick on whichever “Forum” you’d like to “go into” or read.

Let me and Ms debbie know if all is okay now.

Jonathan: That was covered to an exent above. i.e. “I” don’t use the Pulse Page for what you apparently do.

WAY too Complex to do it that way and I know my way around here Pretty Well, given the 682 Days.

I’m sure a lot of People would like to make Personal Changes to suit their Personal Ways of wanting to do things. In fact it’s usually an Ongoing Conversation in “Site Feedack”.

Me? I’m Very Happy with the way things are running now.

They’ve made a LOT of changes lately for the Better and sometimes the changes cause a certain amount of Unintended, Technical Site Disturbances and a couple of them are still acting up.

I’m sure they’ll be Cleaned Up in Short Order.

In the meantime …...”Have A Great One!”

thanks everyone for your feedback … it is always helpful to see how people use the site and would like to use the site.

Of course, with 30,000+ members it is impossible to provide all of the options to meet everyone’s needs. As we fine-tune things here and there hopefully what evolves is effective. Martin, I think, has done a great job at creating multiple ways to utilize the site and to keep up to date with what is happening.

What I like about the pulse is that it allows me to see how many posts have been made since I last checked.
This feature isn’t on the forums tab and I have to check frequently for new comments.

I suppose I could just get in to the habit of watching things I am interested in and using the pulse page for my watch list as others have done.

I would really be useful if there was a “Go to the bottom” button that worked if you are not signed in. I choose not to sign in when I check stuff from my dumb phone. The little keys are just to hard for my fat fingers to manipulate. and the plane thread is impossible to check then.

Mostly I have no complaints.
