Topic tags/keywords: introduction

I didn’t see any place on this forum to dedicated to introductions, so I thought I’d be polite and at least post something here letting y’all know how much I’ve enjoyed just lurking the past couple of months. The work, techniques, wealth of information, and the friendly atmosphere finally compelled me to take the plunge and join.

I’ve done some woodworking over the years, mostly at a basic amateur level. A couple of months ago I set out to make an heirloom rocking cradle for my not-yet-born grandchild and realized I had to up my knowledge and skills considerably. I gleaned a lot of techniques, do and don’ts from this forum that helped me finish a project with just basic tools that I was happy enough with to give as a gift. I’ll post a couple of photos of the cradle to the Projects section a little later. For every question that arose during the building of the cradle, I was able to find an answer here. So, huge thanks to all that contribute so unselfishly to make this such a big resource of information.

I moderate at another forum dedicated to DIY tile and stone installation, John Bridge Ceramic Tile Advice Forums, so I can appreciate how much effort it takes to keep a site like this running smoothly. You’re doing a great job here, and this will be my go to for anything wood.

Thanks everyone… soon as I get approved I’ll load up some project pics of the cradle y’all inadvertently helped me with. Went to the local Woodcraft today and got some walnut, padauk and hard maple to try my hand at a box. The stunning work I’ve seen here is really inspirational. Now, if I could only find a way to keep the materials cost down. Exotic woods are expensive!

Question,

Since I’m new to the forum I expect anti-spam measures to be in place. One I ran into already was when trying to post my cradle project. I received this message:

”You cannot post a new project until your first post has been reviewed and approved.”

Would anyone know how long the wait time is until approval? No worries, just wondering….

Hello, good to have another member on board, nice of you to present yourself rather than slipping in quietly through the back entrance :) Enjoy…

I have a question about making box joints using a jig I made and was gonna ask in the Woodworking Skill Forum, but it says I cannot post another until my first post is approved (this thread is my first post). Ran into the same issue when trying to post photos of a completed project. ShaneA mentioned it won’t take long, so any ideas about how long? Several days? A week? More? I’m not worried or anything like that, just would like to take advantage of some expertise reference the box joint jig.

Thanks in advance. :)

I would contact MsDebbie or Martin about your concerns.

I don’t believe it has anything to do with Spam. UNLESS you are promoting your Web Site shown above in the Postings you are awaiting Aproval for.

I thought my first was approved in minutes, maybe they are behind or new policies are in place, or some strange technical issue. You may send Martin a message.

Not at all, and I am not the owner. I just thought folks around here might be interested in that forum since y’all are good craftsman, hence the link. I would take it out, or have it taken out, if the wrong impression was given by including it.

I’ll give it a while then ping Martin or MsDebbie as suggested.

Thank you.

That’s not just any dog! He’s a retired racing greyhound. I have two of ‘em and trust me, they’re just the greatest companions ever. I’ve always had labs (gundogs), but greyhounds are addicting. Some say they’re like potato chips – you can’t have just one. And fast? I know of at least one hound that was clocked at over 50 mph, many of the best ones regularly clock 45+ mph. Very quiet and for the most part are couch potatoes. Cute, short video here you might enjoy. Cal looks identical to my other hound.

Well, I’ve sent Martin a message about when the first post approval might occur so I can participate in the Lumberjocks forum and have not heard back – it’s been two days. Maybe he’s a very busy person. Should I contact MsDebbie also, or would that be in bad taste? I’m beginning to get a little unsure about whether or not I’m welcome here.
