Topic tags/keywords: 1836 craftsman drum sander

A good friend of mine offered to sell me this sander as he bought it thinking it would work like a thickness planer. It doesn’t so he used it very little. Now for the question: This is a 3HP model, he doesn’t have the manual, and I can’t find any information about a 3 HP Craftsman. It is too cheap ($450) to pass up but I would like to get some info/owners manual. Anyone have one of these? Source for owner’s manual? Comments? Thanks in advance.

So the sander is model number 21568, not 21518? Have you tried calling Sears to see if you can order one through them?

Here’s a link to a Sawmill Creek thread mentioning that it's basically a Grizzly G0458, which may help.

That looks like the correct manual to me.

Thanks guys. That’s why I love this site. Not sure of the model # but he’s supposed to deliver it in the next week. I can’t wait!

Looks like you’ll be in hog, uh, I mean Sawdust heaven. I hate it and love it when those “just too good to pass up” deals come along. Enjoy! :)

Kind of reminds me of the saying “never buy a used car from a good friend” maybe the same goes for drum sanders – I hope not. The price does seem good though.

1836? That’s just a couple of years before my time, Doc! LOL I was a Sears (Craftsman) fan many years ago and owned most of their power tools. I had them in a self storage unit between homes and a “friend” stole everything (worth over $5,000) in that unit from me. Since then, the only Sears machine I have is an older shaper I bought real cheap on Craigs List. Anyway, I didn’t know Sears had such a hefty drum sander! I’ve needed one at times, so I’d eventually get one when I luck into one, like you did. Do let me know how it works out, Andy.
