My daughter called me today to tell that I am going to be a grandfather. Holy molly, what a shock. A grandpaw, me? I can not possibly be that old… Alas, the shock wore off, and now I am ready to build a crib. Since you hear so much about kids getting entangled in cribs and stuff, I will hold back on my desire to design it (I’ll save that for the matching dresser). So, where can I buy detailed crib designs, with sources of any necessary hardware and mattress and stuff? -- There are three kinds of people... those who can count, and those who can't |

You may want to ask Karson about his cradle. He made a spectacluar one that was even in WoodCraft Mag. I have seen it in person as was stunned. It is absolutly amazing. If you are concerned about slat spacing, you may want to look at the comsumer product safety commision. I think they may have something on it, its been a while and I don’t even have the link. I built a cradle about 20 yrs ago when we were execting my first son from a woodsmith mag. -- Greg - Charles Town, WV |

Congratulations! My son was the last of the extended family of cousins to sleep in a cradle my father made for my brother (the first of the five of us). That cradle that Dad made started each of us and each of our kids off on their life’s journey… When you hand your daughter any project it may become a great legacy… -- cough...cough....next big purchase is wood for the next project, Mark |

Congratulations on beginning a new phase in your life. I am sure that you will thoroughly enjoy being a grandparent. I enjoy it so much that, to tell the truth, I wish we had had our grandchildren first. :) Thanks for the post. I am happy for you. -- With God's help all things are possible- even woodworking. Woodworking is not just a hobby, it is an (expletive deleted) expensive hobby. |

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, and again, and again; Grandkids are the greatest thing in the world. You are moving into the best part of life now, congratulations. I made a crib for my grandson and now his sister is using it and there’s more to come. Take your time and build it special because it is an heirloom in the making. -- If at first you don't succeed, try again. Then quit. No use being a darn fool about it. |

Thanks, y’alls. I found a nice design for a crib that someone posted here a while back based on one of the rockler plans. I think I am going to go for that, with a little inlay, and matching dresser. Might switch the wood combinations (to not be a total copycat), but then again, I might not. I am surprised at my reaction to all of this. I thought I would not be totally in love with the idea, but I find myself lovin’ it. Might teach the little punk to surf… -- There are three kinds of people... those who can count, and those who can't |
