Rockler HVLP Turbine shortly after it caught fire in my shop. Thankfully I was spraying a water based clear coat. Had this happened earlier in the day when I was spraying denatured alcohol, acetone and shellac, my shop could have caught fire with me in it. I could not smell the smoke right away because I was wearing a respirator. Do not buy this product no matter how good the reviews are. This was my second one. The first didn’t work right straight out of the box so I returned it. I got the same model because it’s reviews were stellar. The manager at Rockler said that these things have been failing a lot more recently and they think the manufacturer is using cheaper parts. This thing is down right dangerous. Not to mention how it destroyed my project when the motor caused it to spit and sputter the finish. Had I not noticed that right away and had I been spraying a solvent based finish, my shop could have exploded. Unacceptable. I wish I could have filmed it while it was ablaze but I was a little busy putting it out. This is me putting yet another dose of water on it because it’s still smoking. Turn the volume up all the way at the end and you will hear it still sizzling. That was almost five minutes after I dosed it the first time. You have been warned. Once again, screwed by Rockler.
