how about a feature in the jocks tab that lets you search for jocks by state or region. It makes being able to get in touch with locals and letting them know about deals in our area.

Joey,

Some people may be uncomfortable with a feature like this due to privacy issues… That’s the only downside I can come up with.

I like the idea. While I understand Chris’s concern about the privacy issue. When you sign up you are not required to list your hometown or even your state. I did give this very thing some thought when I joined and desided to list my HT and State. After digging through all 4200+ Jock’s I was supprised to find several in my area. Have not contacted anybody but it is nice to know there are LJ’s in the area. Makes the WWW seem smaller and LJ’s more real. Just my .02 worth.

I’ve asked Martin to make that change. If you don’t want to use your town but state would be great.

I agree that it would be nice.

I wish I could find local jocks, and for privacy people can choose to disclose or not. I wish I had a woodworker’s guild in my area.

Please keep in mind I was not shooting down the idea. Maybe there could be an feature to “opt-out” for those who would not want to participate. As for me? I’m game….

i like the idea.

when you sign up you can either say where you are from or not… It would be interesting to see a map of where we are

Good idea, not many local Jocks down under yet but growing. But then again there might be a few who have not said where they live.

I agree with this idea. Not only is it a chance for newbies like myself to have local access to the wisdom and experience of seasoned wood workers, but it’s also a chance to make new friends.

Has this request died or is it in the works?

I think it would be very useful.

We currently have a map of workshops but I know it’s not sufficient for finding the local jocks. I will do something with this in the future.

I with others. It would be nice to search the list by state. The map will only shows it in groups and you have to keep paging through. Kind of tough since you have to keep zooming in as some icons may be hiding behind one another.

Even though, I still love this place.
