I was curious if people know where to buy “NORMAL” 4×4 lumber in GOOD SHAPE? I mean 4”x4” spruce, pine etc. building grade lumber kilin dried in Ottawa or area. Just like 2×4 wall studs but bigger ;)

I went to BMR and to RONA both are the only places I have found them BUT the problem is that BOTH places the items were soaking wet outside and litterly covered in black mold and some were even rotting. The people selling it weren’t surprized said they were always like that because they quickly go bad and sit for long. Finding 2×4’s are no problem they look nice but the 4×4’s are a huge mess at both locations.

The “hardwood” stores don’t sell them in spruce (KJP etc.)

The other box store lumber yards (HD, Lowes) only carry pressure treated or cedar($$) (I’m looking for cheap 4×4 posts that will be used indoors, at least as good looking as a premium 2×4 stud).

Get some premium 2×4s, joint carefully and match grain, glue up and make 4×4s. Painted they’ll look fine, clear, the glue line may show. Any lumber mills around Ottowa?
