See how I worded that. I said challenge to get you interested, but it’s really just another I need help figuring out what it is. This is a bowl blank that was given to me. Any suggestions? See photos and scanned images below:

It’s not as purple as the scanned image appears to be.

Considering you said it’s not that purple, and as purpleheart pretty much doesn’t spalt as seen in the last picture, I vote for woman’s tongue. Go to www.urbanforestrecycling.com/urbanforestrecycling/8%29_fatties,. and see what I mean. It’s rare.

It looks like Walnut with spalted sapwood.

its really hard to tell from these pictures but i wouldn’t be surprised if it was more obscure species from the pictures. walnut is a good guess

Could be Hormigo/Hormiguillo if the colour is a lot more red/orange and a lot less (not at all) purple…more like the colour in the 2nd and 3rd pics. Hormigo is often sold as bowl and turning blanks and is commonly spalted.
