Topic tags/keywords: resource tip ads scam

I just now noticed an Ad from MyLife.com as a ”Featured Banner Ad” at the top of the page here.

They ASK you to fill in your first and last name as well as your age. Then click through to their Site and find out who is “Looking For You”. DO NOT DO THAT!!

I saw a TV ”Investigative Special” on this Company just last week. They have “somehow” built up an enormous Bank of Peoples Private Information. They use to be Classmates.com and before that Reunion.com. and ”Facbook” is another of their sources.

Apparently one way of MyLife getting the Information they have was by RETAINING All (Supposedly) Deleted Acccounts from the other two sites.

They also advertise their service as Free but if you want to view the SO-Called People that are looking for you, you must pay a ”Join Fee” or whatever they call it of $19.95 (in that area).

IF You DO THAT, they then have Your Credit Card Account Number and although they don’t tell you. It’s reasonably likely you WILL BE Charged for a Years Membership!

While you’re trying to get out of that you’ll probably notice a RECURRING COST next month on your Card that you also were not told about

Google has Thousands of ”Hits” on this Co. as a SCAM!!

The following is ONE of MANY Complaints filed with ”Consumer Affairs”

”I did not sign up for an account but they have all of my personal information, my age, my home address, and email. I contacted them to have it removed. They sent a slip and claimed it had been done. But when I checked back, it was still there. In a Google search, it has all the information provided. But it lists MyLife.com as the source of information. Some of the info is not available on my Facebook account, so I have no idea how they got some of the information. I have had problems with someone harassing members of my family before. And I don’t want a wide open invitation telling strangers my home address and how to contact me.”

Sorry to get so Wordy Folks, but I HATE “Leaches” like this, especially when they Prey on Senior Citizens! To say nothing of the Hour By Hour Erosion and THEFT of YOURS and MY Personal Information!!

I also saw a complaint that said ALL they had to do was GOOGLE their OWN NAME and they were STUNNED by the Amount of Personal Information that came up! Not sure if I even want to try that???

Thank You: Rick

“By tracking a person’s movements and messages , an algorithm can accurately predict where they will go next ” ~ Eric Schmidt , CEO , Google .

” It used to be that , you used to have a warrant to monitor a person or group of people . Today it’s increasingly easier to monitor ideas and trace them back to people ” ~ Tom Owad , Computer Consultant

” Wipe your hard drive , burn your lap top , change your name ,move to Vegas, use disposable cell phones , pay in cash for goods and services , buy a barrel of cognac (optional ) and learn how to play the flute . That will make it much harder for them to data-mine you , man ! ” ~ anonymous ( really me but.shooosh, quiet )

Moment:

The first one on Algorithms. I use to love watching a show on TV, “Numbers”. Two Brothers. One an FBI Cop. One a Professor of Mathematics. The one always used Algorithms to help solve their cases. Great Show! I can’t find it anymore though.

I USE to play the trumpet, but have always Loved the Flute. Okay! I won’t tell anyone. You have my word.

Thanks for dropping by and “COMMENTING”.

Rick, Thanks for the warning! I hate leaches as well. I know a person how has been under attach from a company that claimed to be legit. Now this person has spent lots of money trying to get their names off certain sites….. But alas the damage has been done. It is a sad that we have to be so careful and not trust.

Thanks for the heads up!!

Great heads up. Stay off the grid. I have used Superdav721 for years and because of facebook and google they have tied my address, phone numbers and all my other email accounts to it. The less information people know about you the better. I retain that information to people I want to give it to. I am not one of those nitwits outside watching for black helicopters but I am leery of big brother.

I established a yahoo account the first week of their e-mail service. It’s rendered totally useless, getting upwards of 5000 spams a day. Computers suck.

^That is pretty funny. But then they do state – ”By the way, we will use your email address only for this purpose and won’t share it with anyone.” Good enough for me! Here’s my social security number too… ;-)
