Topic tags/keywords: question screws metric

I bought drawer handles at Ikea at 4 for $1.99 which is a great deal. The problem is that the screws that came with them will not go through 3/4” drawer box and 3/4” drawer front. I have been forcing some SAE screws but it is not fun at all. I have been digging and have determined that the metric screws are M4 and I am looking at a lengths of 40MM and 45MM which equates out too 1.574803149608” and 1.7716535433090001” respectively. Which one would you go with?

I would take one of the handles, and head to the local hardware store. There you will find metric screws ,and you can get them a little longer, if that is what you need. They might even trade screws with you if it is the same place the handles were boughten!!

You could also counter bore the holes on the inside of your drawer. It will also hide the heads of your screws.
That’s what I have done before. Make the hole depth fit you screw length.

I was thinking that the 40 MM would do fine with a counterbore/sink would work fine.

Finding a metric screw that size should be no problem, but if you can’t use an 8-32 bottom tap and retap them.
