Yesterday I saw a short clip on a new tool to add to your table saw that would stop the blade when it came into contact with flesh. The inventor even ran his finger into the blade, it stopped, he said it felt like a light tickle. The attachment cost $65.00. Anyone know how to obtain one. I wish I had it six months ago, I cut off the end of my thumb $65.00 is a lot cheaper than the doctor bill. Thanks

It’s probably the one that has sensors attached to the guard that disconnects the motor from its power source and shorts the motor’s power leads which causes dynamic braking to stop the motor fairly quickly.

The downsides are:

1. It has to be used with the guard
2. It only works with universal motors. If your saw uses an induction motor, it won’t work. Universal motors are typically used only on light duty portable bench saws.

Earl,

Are you sure that this was not the SawStop? The cost of a new cartridge is about $69, I believe. This is not something that can be added to any other saw.

“do they have one for a hammer ?”

Don’t we wish. Those nails don’t really need to be driven into a board, do they?

After the SawStop demo, Steve Gass says, “It felt like a buzz or a tickle”. This is what the OP mentions. I am sure that he is referring to the SawStop.
