Just wanting to get some ideas from you guys who own 718’s. I am definitely lacking in the dust collection department. I currently am running the 2hp (cough) harbor freight with a thien separator with a 4” hose. I’ve pretty much hopped up the collector as much as possible, and she still just cannot do it. I’ve mounted the blower on top of the separator. I’ve stepped up the suction to a 6” inlet. But, I only have a 4” hose to the planer.

So I’m wondering what everyone else is running, and if you’re happy with it. I’ve thought about reworking the hat on top of the planer to a 6”. I know it would help some, but I’m not sure it would be enough.

I’m going to post this a few other places looking for as much input as possible.

Thanks.

We have the 725. I am fairly sure the requirements are for a 3 hp dust collector. I would personally look to upgrade your dust collection equip. If u lack the funds then maybe begin saving. Sometimes a dust collector with adequate specs can be found on CL. I also am using an undersized collector but am currently budgeting for a future upgrade to a 5 hp leeson motor/cyclone unit with 6” duct. In the meantime our Grizzly 2 hp does fair and I use compressor air to keep planer free of debri.

The 718 needs a good 3hp to keep it clear of chips. I tried there 3 hp on the 725 and foung it is to small for it.

Small update.

I just purchased a 3hp jet dc-1200. Until I can build or afford a cyclone, I’m wondering how you guys collect your chips. Currently I collect with a thien separator and blow the fines outside. I’m thinking I will probably do that also with this dc.
