I recently got a used Leigh D1258 series (compatible w/ D4) dovetail jig without router bits.
Any recommendations on which bit sets I should get? The Leigh branded ones are a bit pricey.
Many sets are missing the 12 deg half-blind bit (perhaps b/c its not a very poplar one?).

What do you guys recommend?

Try this link. Drop down to the dovetail bits. Whiteside sells sets for Leigh and individual bits. Good luck. – http://www.whitesiderouterbits.com/catalog.html#catimgs

Yes, I took a look earlier. The Whiteside set was what prompted me to ask the question since its missing the 12 degree bit.
Have you ever felt the need for the 12 degree bit?

Sarit,

Interestingly I was looking for a 7 degree when I looking into Whiteside’s dovetail selection. I have the Porter-Cable Omnijig and have their dovetail set – all 7 degree. Well, Porter-Cable’s provided me with crap Chinese bits and the D4 bit’s head sheared off during use. I never felt the need for a 12 or a 7 degree. It seems both suppliers chose unique bit designs to keep us from getting quality bits from other suppliers.

That’s good to know. Looks like I’ll be getting a whiteside set after all.

Have your say...
