Topic tags/keywords: oak tablesaw milling shaker

and one can build about anything they want. Working on a Blanket Chest, ala Norm Abram. These old boards came from a garage that was torn down. The rafters seem to be mainly white oak. A look at where I’m at right now:

and a look at the plan I’m working from, just a picture, but it’s about all I need:

ah yes, a top with a bread board edge? I just got the top into the clamps tonight, I’ll clean it up, and apply an edge to it later.

As for the raised panels sides, they were done on the tablesaw, With a Shaker bevel of 12 degrees. As for the bottom, since I’m using old boards for this, how about an old sheet of 1/2” plywood? Screwed to some 4/4 by 4/4 cleats.

“Just some old oaken rafters”

You’re killing me. Out here on the farthest northwestern tip of the contiguous US we have to go steal an old pallet from the Sears dumpster to salvage any oak (or just about any hardwood for that matter). And then you’re lucky if you’re rewarded with a 16 inch 1/2×4 board full of nail holes.

That’s a good looking chest. Nice clean lines. I’m jealous.

Oh heck yeah! I love this kind of simple primitive stuff. Ought to last another hundreds years or more…
