Has anyone else ever had project you are going to do “someday”, but that day never seems to come? Well here is one of mine that won’t fit into our décor anymore and I have too many other things to complete.
Somewhere around 10 years ago, when I owned and operated a sawmill business, I had a “one-of-a-kind” Red Oak log come into the mill off of one of our stumpage sales. My logger didn’t think anything much about this particular log as he loaded it, except it did have ring shake through-out the log, which down-graded it from veneer quality.
When the load came into the mill from 6 miles south of town, the center of the log was sticking out 1 ½ ft. from the outside section. There was a complete separation at the ring shake. First thing that entered my mind was, darn good thing this didn’t slide out completely on the road and get hit by someone.
We pushed the center out with the loader and milled the center piece. What we had left was an absolute perfect, knot free, Red Oak “culvert”. I scratched my head for a time trying to figure out what to do with it. Along with some other idea’s, I came up with making a pair of end-tables along with a coffee table. You should get the idea from the pictures. I milled them to the current shapes on a Wood Miser mill.
I’m sure there are many other uses that they could be used for. The possibilities are endless.
The dimensions are as follow:
Here the deal, I have no idea what so ever what is a fair value of these are. I don’t have anything to compare them too. I will entertain any reasonable offer and will let them go to the best offer I receive. I am open to suggestions. Please feel free to help me out with your thoughts. Thank you!
