I have owner the Delta 13” 2 speed planer for about 5 years. I have been extremely pleased with the planer. However, I am now having trouble with snipe. I lock the head inplace as always, but keep getting the snipe. This is really strange as I almost never got snipe prior to this. Has anyone else experienced this problem and know of a fix. Any help or guidance will be appreciated. pkennedy

I have never had it happen before but if it suddenly started happening then something broke or came loose.
I would suspect the pressure rollers.

I have the same planer and love it as well. I adjust my infeed and outfeed tables SLIGHTLY above dead flat. Being stamped sheet metal they can flex a little under the weight of a board allowing the ends of the boards to move up into blades more than when then board is being pressed down by both rollers. On longer boards, I make sure to support the boards with my hand (slight upward pressure here too) as they enter and exit the rollers.

I don’t know if this is the correct answer but, it works for me .

I have the same planer and it is about the same age as yours. The only time I have snipe problems is when (1) the tables flex under the weight of the board or (2) if I raise up on the end of board as it is coming out of the planer. I never get any snipe on the infeed side unless I have the board end higher than the planer table. First I would check the infeed/outfeed tables with a long straight edge and if this doesn’t solve the problem then then look hard at the feed rollers, as Gary suggested.

Hope this helps.

I think there’s some language in the manual on adjusting the rollers…

I agree with the others that it’s gotta be that your outfeed table is out of adjustment. I have the owners manual so if you need directions just PM me.

Thanks everyone, I plan to spend some time in my shop today. I’ll pull out the owners manula and check to insure everything is set properly. I was initially concerned that the problem lie with the locking device. Thanks again, pkennedy
