Like I said, I don’t know anything about hand tools, but I’m always on the lookout for new tools and skills. Does anything in this ad look good to anyone?

They all look good to me. Theres a coupel of transistionals (wood sole, metal frog), looks like there is a metal smoothing plane (#4 i would guess), a couple coffin smoothers (coffin shaper wood planes), might be a rebate / shoulder plane there, drawknives are very cool (3 of those), some long bodied jointers (all wood). It would be one heck of a start to getting into hand tools in my book. Id venture to guess that a great deal would be $200. A good deal $250. A fair deal at $300. Market price $500. All my opinion of course.

Not too unreasonable price wise for the lot. With many of them it will really come down to how beat up the wood is on them. If they’re largely uncracked and have been kept oiled then they should be a decent start. You may need to resole a couple of them. Might not be the best place to start if you know nothing about planes. The all metals, which I see only 3 of there, can be a better start for ease of learning adjustment and truing them up; especially with the greater knowledge base on them that you can draw from. The all wood can be real nice but it helps if you have a greater understanding of what you are doing.
