I made my own, the first one out of oak, since then I have made several out of alum and steel for different drilling application’s none have ever cost me much money. before that I was giving one made by general, the one that has the little wheel on top with the different size bushings in it and it rides on two rails. it works ok, but the wheel thing moves a little, I seem to always use the ones I build in most cases. -- Joey~~Sabina, Ohio http://sleepydogwoodworking.blogspot.com/ |

Grizzley has the same one as Charlie, with out the dowels for less than $40. I have one and it works real good. It also has the interchangeable guides. -- Tim -- http://tmuli.com |

I know Debbie like the DowelMax, but it is a bit more than that one. -- Bill, Turlock California, http://www.brookswoodworks.com |

Gary, a dowel joint may not be as strong as a traditional mortise and tenon, but for many applications it will serve the same purpose with much less time and effort. -- Charlie M. "Woodworking - patience = firewood" |

What I dislike about dowel joints is how hard it is to get them lined up. I have drilled them before (without a jig), they look great, and then when you go to assemble it they are off just enough to prevent the joint from seating. Using a dowel jig would probably eliminate most of that. -- Bill, Turlock California, http://www.brookswoodworks.com |

Charlie M. has recommended a very good dowling jig. We used them in prison industries all the time. God Bless -- Mc Bridge Cabinets, Iowa |

Take a look at the dowlmax site. They have conducted test of various joints using dowels, m&t and biscuits. Theyr is very little difference between M&T and dowels. -- Bruce from Central New York |

I looked at Dowelmax and had toi quickly leave there site. I knew they where pricey, but $279 is out of my reach. Maybe when I become famous like Debbie I can get one. |

Yeah, Al…you have to remember Ms. Debbie gets HUGE fees for conducting all those shop inspections. She can afford it! -- Charlie M. "Woodworking - patience = firewood" |
