Hi to everybody.I’m toto55 of the philippines.Yesterday I bought a powermatic bandsaw model 81 with SN#67-3414 with NORKOLK PUBLIC SCHOOL VA. sticker, from a second hand store here in Davao City,Philippines .It is in good condition and it looks like new.It has a 1hp motor 3 phase and light green in color. My question to every one who could help me are, could I change the motor from 1hp to 5hp single phase?Of course the RPM is the same.Since the operation of this machine is 8 to 10 hrs daily and it will cut and slice 1,200pcs 1×1x15”,1200pcs 1×1x16”,3,600pcs 1/8”x2×16”,and 2,400pcs 1/8×2x15”or a minimum of 8,400pcs daily.Could I change also the blade from 3/4 to 1” or even wider diameter? Thus anyone made changes on there powermatic model 81 please help me.

5hp 1Ph? Man, you’re not messing around. That sounds like a lot of motor for that saw but I’m no expert on the matter. I bet Loren or MedicKen will tell you. Good luck!

Thank you Al.Debbie Sons of powermatic send me the owner’s parts manual and it is said there that the said machine can be fitted with 2hp motor,so I settled for 3hp motor 1ph tefc.Same with others in the review that they also installed 3hp motor on there machine.I don’t know Lorern or Madicken but I’m please to hear some advice to them too or to anybody out there who have a good heart to help like me who is new to this machine.
