Topic tags/keywords: chisel turning mastercraft

Hi folks, I’m just browsing through canadian tire’s website and come across a special on turning chisels at 60%. Seeing as the only chisels I have right now are the crappy (4” handles) tools that came with my mini-lathe, I’m desperate to get another set of turning tools ASAP. I don’t want to invest too much in them though, since I’l also starting to sharpen my chisels. I was wondering if anyone has the chisels shown in the link below: How are they holding up for a cheap set?

http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/6/Tools/PowerToolAccessories/LatheTools/PRD~0552007P/Mastercraft+6-piece+Chisel+Set.jsp?locale=en

I would be mainly turning game calls and such on my 12” lathe.

Cheers!

Yes I did actually. But as with anything, a sample of only one doesn’t mean much. The guy could of had a bad batch or something like that…

Hence why I’m trying to grow the sample size by finding other people that have used those chisels.

I’m also not looking for top-notch henry taylors or P&N. I will screw up when sharpening them. I will probably overheat them, etc. I’m still in the early phases of learning the whole sharpening thing. Once I know what I’m doing, I’ll probably splurge for something better, but for now, I need a decent set of tools that will offer the best ratio quality/price.

I’ve also heard great things about Benjamin’s Best…which would be another decent brand.
