I find that tracking sawdust into the house keeps her plenty busy sweeping and complaining…and out of the shop! BTW…Happy Birthday! -- Bob Vila would be so proud of you! |

Hi Andy, Good luck on preventing your wife from storing things in YOUR space. After 31 years I have given up trying to change my wife. Like yours she seems to think that anytime she needs to move something out of the house, my shop is the most logical place to store it. Like Dadoo I get yelled at for bringing sawdust into the finished part of the basement. But this only gives her an excuse to go through the shop and rearrange everything to “make it more organized”. But then, of course, I can’t get to anything once she is finished. So good luck on keeping your shop space open so that you can work in it. If you find a way to keep your wife out of it let me know I would be interested in that as well. :) By the way Happy Birthday. -- With God's help all things are possible- even woodworking. Woodworking is not just a hobby, it is an (expletive deleted) expensive hobby. |

Happy Birthday. Problem: needed space for storage Problem: needing an excuse to check out the workshop Problem: angry about the private workshop space (Personally I like the idea of having her build things with you—gives you something to do together AND gives her an understanding of why you need the space cleared of household storage.) -- "Functional WoodArt" by Debbie, Canada (http://www.execulink.com/~yohan) |

I have a door from the kitchen to the garage (shop). My wife used to throw things out the door into my shop. Empty boxes, bags of books, my sons school stuff, you name it. One day as she did it I gathered it and waited for her to go to the store then put it all in her very own dedicated sewing room. This room that is her pride and joy. She’s not stupid, so there was not a lot of explaining to do. If anything goes into the garage now we decuss it first and I have veto power !!! She can find room for it in the house or throw it away. HAPPY BIRTHDAY -- ??? My mistakes heat the house. It's very warm in here. ??? |

My wife and I came to an understanding many moons ago about this. Her kitchen is a shop, basically, with lots of power tools where she creates things to eat several times a day. We both understand the difference and the sameness and wouldn’t think of cluttering the other’s shop. -- Ron, Bakersfield, CA. Measure twice, cut twice anyway. |
