Yes, it another topic about politics.

America’s budget is really messed up and the numbers prove it (found this one another forum)

Why the US was downgraded…

• U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
• Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
• New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
• National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
• Recent budget cut: $ 38,500,000,000

Let’s remove 8 zeros and pretend it’s a household budget:

• Annual family income: $21,700
• Money the family spent: $38,200
• New debt on the credit card: $16,500
• Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
• Total budget cuts: $385

We really need to do something about this soon.

I think now is the time to fire all the moron’s in office and replace them with new elected officials.

Support and vote for qualified challengers (no incumbents should be voted back in considering the horrible job they’ve done – and continue to do) in the primaries this year – doesn’t matter your party affiliation. The only way we are going to get the national budget under control and our country back is to replace the existing government through the election process. When an employee (politician) doesn’t do the job right, you fire and replace them.

The elitism at the federal level has gotten out of control. We are now servants to the government instead of the government being servants to us (the way this country was founded).

I have visited the same analogy using different numbers, but basically the same thing. If this were my family I would cut spending and get another job to raise revenue.
I think everyone agrees that our budget is our of whack, even a non-party affiliate like me. The thing that is dividing us is one, what are we going to cut, and why, and two, how are we going to raise revenue to cover expenses.
Keep in mind that every dollar our government spends is worth more to our economy than just the dollar. That is true if the dollar is spent in our country, but if the dollar gets spent in Pakistan, to a tribal leader, we are not going to see much of a return.
Voting all the politicians out and starting with a new group will not change things. IMO. The reason behind my thinking is this. There are over three hundred and fifty lobbyist (who make a nice living, in the Washington DC area) for every one of the folks that we get to vote on. Why would a reasonable person spend millions of their own money to get a job that pays less than two hundred grand a year? There is only one reason, and I think it has to do with all those well healed lobbyist, and the corporations and PACs that they represent.
My solution is this. Lobby our elected officials to pass a law or constitutional amendment if necessary to state simply if you can’t cast a vote, you can not contribute to a candidate or lobby a candidate once elected.
Every dollar spent on every election is spent as an investment, when that dollar comes from a Company, a PAC, or any other organization, that doesn’t hold a ballot when it comes time to vote.

You forgot about the mortgage.
Put outstanding mortgage: $142,710, instead of outstanding balance on the credit card and you’ve got yourself a typical american family. Why would the country as a whole be any different?
People have the government they deserve.

But You have North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue:

“I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that.”

Basically, under Bush, the US had the choice to have extensive social programs, or be an assertive military power, or be a low tax jurisdiction – and chose all three. Obama has re-prioritized among those three, but ten years on the US is still trying to keep all three options. If left long enough, it will be capable of sustaining none.

There is a lot of things we could cut without really hurting anybody but mebers of congress and the president are too hardheaded to do it. There are also countries like pakistan that we keep sending money to that need to be cut off completely.
