THIS ITEM HAS BEEN SOLD. THANKS FOR LOOKING! Hi everyone. I’m going to start selling some of my antique tools. I am very careful to refurbish these tools to good working condition, rebreathing life back into fine tools that have been neglected and all but discarded in some instances. Most of the tools I have collected are of premium brands of old times. Disston, Simonds, Harvey Peace, Woodrough&McParlin, George H Bishop, Richardson, and others. I will be listing one at a time, mostly saws. I take great care in making these tools useable again as I feel that is what these tools are meant to be. Let me make myself very clear. I am new at selling tools like this. I do my best to research what I think the tool is worth, taking into account what I paid for it, and how much work I put into it to get it to the condition it now is. ALL of my prices will be somewhat negotiable, so if you think I am out to lunch, please politely send me a PM and explain why you think so. I will be posting many pictures of each item that accurately show the exact condition of it. I include photo’s of all markings and damage. If you have a specific question or want a photo taken from a different angle, please let me know and I will happily oblige. Taking the time to take good photos is worth it to me to have a happy customer. I am not a historian and cannot always accurately date the exact age of a tool. I will provide you the info needed, and you can do your own research. Is some cases, where there is lots of information available on dating the tool (like Disston saws for example), I will do my best to provide a possible age range. I will accept Paypal for payment, and actual shipping costs will be calculated and charged to you. I have no problem shipping anywhere at your expense. Ok, now that all THAT is out of the way, for your consideration first up is a Mathieson (Glasgow) Rosewood and brass marking gauge. This gauge is in very good working condition. The screw has been cleaned and lightly oiled and turns easily. The gauge head slides easily on the shaft and the rosewood has been carefully cleaned and waxed. The pins are sharp and the lower pin moves smoothly. The locking screw works well and holds the head in place tightly. Some proud previous owner of this tool, named M. FORBES, felt strongly enough about not loosing it that he stamped his name on the tool in two locations of the head (one of which is just above the Mathieson mark, as seen in the photos). There are some minor dings and dents on this gauge and a small piece missing fom near the thumbscrew. All this is to be expected of such a vintage tool. None of it affects the use of the tool. This will be a fine tool to use or just to have in your collection. Overall I think it is in very good condition and the rosewood is very beautiful. Please look at the photos carefully and judge for yourself. I think that Mathieson tools are relatively rare to find in good condition. My asking price is $65.
