Hello to my fellow Lumberjocks,
I am the one who recently won the $4,000 Hammer Table Saw (European style with the sliding table) that was announced here on Lumberjocks. I received a telephone call this morning from Hammer about my saw and was told they are having another drawing, this time for one of their $3,000 A3-36 jointer/planers. Of course I have just entered. here is a link to their Facebook page that will lead you to their Facebook page where you can sign up.
My new Hammer saw is all set up except for the final wiring for the 240V connection. Fortunately, my present saw is 240V so all I have to do is extend the cord. I put the saw on casters – four 4” cast iron wheel casters with rubber tires each rated at 330 lbs. Due to the weight of the saw (800 pounds), locks on the casters are not needed. This setup was used on my present saw and it has worked well. It takes a pretty good shove to get the saw to move and I don’t see a problem with the saw moving during use. This is a BIG saw! And though I have a fairly large home shop it helps to occasionally be able to re-position the saw for a particularly long or wide piece. The saw will cut to the center of a 4 ft. x 8 ft. sheet of plywood in either direction!
I’ll be writing a product review of the saw with photos for Lumberjocks. It will be a short while before I post as I will need to get a good feel of the saw and get used to the sliding table and understand its possibilities..
