I was hoping that some one could please explain the advantages of a parellelogram over a regular jointer bed.

From a practical standpoint I can only sight my personal experience. I’ve had one of each.

Started with an inexpensive 6” without parallelogram and it worked OK but I thought the adjustment was not particularly easy though not real difficult. The best thing about this jointer is that it hooked me on having a jointer. Wondered why I waited so long.

When I decided to upgrade to an 8” jointer – and for me that was a good choice – I was able to splurge a bit and did get one with parallelogram. All I can say is WOW! Won’t say it was all because of that particular design feature because there may be other factors. The 8” is so much smoother and easier to adjust IMO. Wouldn’t go back.

I don’t have one, but as I understand it, the biggest usage advantage is that the gap between the tables and the cutterhead stay constant. On a dovtail jointer, as you lower the infeed, that gap grows since the table slides away from the cutterhead. There’s probably some other advantages I’m unaware of, but to me the extra cost and complicated mechanics make it very hard to justify for a home shop.

YEA THEIR OK UNTIL YOU HAVE TO ADJUST IT. THE BUSHINGS ARE JUNK. SOON AS I PUT A WRENCH ON THEM THE CHEAP CAST IRON DESINTEGRATED. TOOK THE MACHINE BACK TO GRIZZLY TO GET BUSCHINGS REPLACED WHICH TOOK A MONTH THEN SOLD IT . I WENT THROUGT THE GRIZZLY PHASE . WILL NO LONGER BUY GRIZZLY MACHINERY.

Have your say...
