Help With Sword Plaque

A friend has set me to work on a plaque to hang two swords and these colored orbs called materia from Final Fantasy 7.

I am concerned about the strength of the wood bracket. It will be a biscuit joint with oak. Any thoughts about the design or grain direction in the image?

Design in a “French Cleat” instead of the biscuit.

The plaque I made for my daughter I screwed and glued the brackets on. I ran the screws through the back side so you couldn’t see them.

Thanks for the input folks!

I have no idea Topomax…maybe opening sardine cans?

I rethought it yester day and will use something like this bracket with screws…just like Gregn suggested:

im not gonna laugh, but seriously your friend wants to display a final fantasy sword with materia? how old is your friend? does he think when he has girls over that this is going to help him get laid?

Tell him to put two mastered “fire” materia and one crystal of the holy realm on it and it should be well protected…
