So I am gonna venture into making some cutting boards for christmas this year and am gonna use the woodwhisperer’s design. About how many BF of each do you think I should purchase? I am making three. Final dimensions will be 12×18. Im thinking about 1.5 bf/species/cutting board. Am I totally off? Thanks for the info.

According to Bell Forest Products, if you buy their “kit” for the WW cutting board, you’ll get 5.3 BF total.

12” x 18” = 1.5 sf @ 1” thick = 1.5 bf. Yep it does.

You will need extra to account for jointing, planing, snipe, ripping, kerf loss, knots and things like that. I would guess 2+ bf per board. Better too much than too little.

This might help. The cutting board designer will let you play around with different designs.
