Hi, when I am turning a bowl sometimes the heat from the gouge is so hot it burns my finger, it is so hot if I held my finger there to long my finger would be burnt. What am I doing wrong

Dry, hard wood combined with a dull gouge and/ or too much pressure would do that.

Sharpen the tool and back off the cut.
