Topic tags/keywords: question oak

I had to lay some 2 1/4” unfinished, solid red oak flooring this year and had some leftovers. I want to sell the rest on Craigslist but don’t know quite how much to sell it for. Mainly, I just want to get rid of it, and secondly, I wouldn’t mind making a quick buck (or quid, depending on your location) off of it. So, either by the linear foot or by the square foot, what do any or all of you hardened and seasoned woodworkers think I should charge for aforementioned wood?

Your knowledgeable replies will be coveted.

Gracias

I’m not sure there would be much of a market for it other than as fire wood. Unless you have enough for a room, it may not work with another brand.
I’ve done three flooring jobs over the years and have never tossed to the leftovers. They come in handy for all types of things around the shop.

If it’s the standard size everyone uses (2 1/4” is standard), you could probably get 50-60% of whatever the material cost of the wood is. The problem is that nobody is going to want to pay full price for what they can buy at any home center.

Figure out how much you have, figure out how much it costs at a big box store (assuming it’s the same product, that is), and divide by two. That’s what you’re likely to get on Craigslist for it. For example, if the flooring is $3.50/sqft at the store, ask for $2/sqft.

Advertise it by the square foot and price it around 75% of retail with the knowledge that u may have to drop the price a bit more

You can buy “new” flooring for 1.00/foot
