Topic tags/keywords: plunge router base performax variable speed compact router compact router

I purchased a Performax Variable Speed Compact Router a few months ago & although I haven’t needed to use it until recently. My question is, is there a plunge base for it or is there a base from another manufacturer that will work on it or am SOL?

Can’t say for certain, but that might be the one that’s a clone of some Makita model. I’ve got it on my shopping list. Sad thing is, I’d imagine a Makita base would run you way more than the clone itself.

Good luck on it!

Thank you for taking the time to read this article and respond back to me about it! I am afraid that you are probably right in that if is that a Makita base would be more expensive than the router itself ;-(( especially since that’s how my luck usually runs. It would interesting to (If you are correct) know which Makita base would fit my compact router, ya know. Anyway, thanks again for replying, I appreciate it!

Hi again MountainMan-

If yours is the one I’m thinking, I’d imagine it’s a clone of the RT0701, but if you went so far as to track down a base, of course you’d want to make sure. There looked to also be a DeWalt in that size range whose base wasn’t absurdly high (<$40), but again you’d need to verify the fit. Ideal would be if Performax or some other clone maker offered it, but most of the time they’re in kits with the router and both bases.

Take Care

PS- Bought a clone of one of Makita’s giant plunge routers (3612?) a while back and it’s actually part-for-part compatible. Half this stuff’s probably coming from the same people.

Here’s a forty dollar clone base:

I think the low price on DeWalts I saw was actually eBay (used).

And somebody in the Router Forums did in fact say the Makita will fit:
