I recently picked up a vacuum pump but am a little short on knowledge of where to get other parts to put together a vacuum chuck. I have picked out the chuck I am going to purchase. But it’s everything between the chuck and the pump that I am clueless about. I have seen it highly suggested that a filter be added but no clue what or where on that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The filter just keeps junk and dirt from getting in the pump. Your pump
may have one already. Of course moisture can be filtered out as well,
but for hobby usage, I expect that’s no needed.

I love vacuum clamping stuff – lots of fun to make jigs with it and it
makes hard stuff easy.

I have never done any lathe clamping, but do love my pump.
If you are looking for parts/ideas try http://www.joewoodworker.com/
Joe’s stuff is pretty popular around here. Several of us have used his kits for our pumps. He is more into veneer but the regulators and filters are about the same I would think.
