I have found a Jet mortiser and tenoning jig on CL for $235. Not sure what brand the jig is. Both look very new with little signs of use. The Jet comes with 3 bits and chisels.

gfadvm…Sounds like a good deal…especially since they look like new. Jet makes a fine tool and should give you years of service.

OK, I bought both for $215. The tenon jig is a Wood River brand. Now I need to figure out how to use them and what to build with them! I’m really not a tool hoarder!!!

Sounds like you found a “bird’s nest on the ground”, and made out like a bandit on the tools. I know the Jet is an excellent mortiser, but I’m not at all familiar with the Wood River tenon jig. I have both the Delta tenon jig and mortiser. Mine are about 12-13 years old, and both work great. When you use these tools, it’s all about allignment and set-up. The bits and chisels have to be set square and straight in the chuck and lined up to cut the mortise you’ve laid out….then just figure the depth of the mortise you need to cut, and the size…you didn’t say which bit and chizel sizes you got. Standard mortise sizes are 1/4”, but bigger may be necessary ,sometimes. Most of the ones I cut are 1/4”. I cut the mortises first, and make the tenons to fit them. I like to “sneak up” on the tenons for proper fit. You can look on-line for instructions on how to use these tools….That’s the good thing about the internet….Mainly it’s practice, practice, and more practice….have fun, and enjoy. If I can help with further questions, just PM me, and I’ll try….lol.
