In the latest version of the Woodsmith magazine…..or whatever Shop Notes is now, there is an Edge Sander home build set of plans. I have an old treadmill motor and controller board…...
For all you electrical folks out there, would that have the Ommpppfff ( very technical term) to be used for an edge sander? Also, I have never built any of their home built power tools….are they worth the time and effort you put into them? I have some metal working tools so I thought maybe I could “beef it up some”. Is that a good idea or not?

Thanks in advance!

I can’t answer you motor question. I can give you my opinion on if its worth it. I think it is.

I built this one back in 1999. It was in ShopNotes 37. Still use it today. Never a problem with it.

BTW this sander as very little vibration. All the green colored material is the dreaded no good for nothing MDF or particle board.

Nice AK.

I can’t comment on motor, either but I suspect you need at least a 1HP induction motor. Sanding can take a lot of power.

Mattias Wandel also had an oscillating version if that’s of interest.

It would be interesting to know if the new plan has any changes from the old plan
