I recently put a 5000w electric heater in the shop hung from the ceiling. It, of course, requires 30 amp 240v which was not a problem. It came with an on-board thermostat that would be hard to reach hanging from the ceiling (I’m short). So, I purchased a 240v 4 wire manual line thermostat to go on the wall and bypass the on-board thermostat. We recently had a few days of chilly weather so I could try it out. While it works in-so-far-as it turns the heater on and off, it is out of calibration by approx. 10 degrees. I can live with that, but I don’t like it. I was going to return it and get another, but there don’t appear to be many brand choices and all the brands look like they were made by the same company. Also, I find that they all (that I have found) suffer the same malady. Anyone else have this problem? Did you find a solution?

I use a Hot Water Heater timer and set it to come on an hour before I get home and an hour before I normally call it a day. Most of the time I just manually turn it off once in the shop. I believe it is called the little grey box. Got it at the borg years ago. All mechanical so no electronics to mess with. Been in use since 1999.
