Hey Guys

I have done many a glue up to make a wide panel but I have never glued up narrow boards 3/4"-1" wide… should I still use cauls.

I am making beer flights and I have to glue 5 pieces of lumber together (total width 4-1/2") but don't know the best practice .

I need to glue 2,sets of 5' boards into beer flight blanks and then cross cut them to dimension.

I am using expensive wood and don't want to screw it up as it would be a costly mistake .. I need them flat as I don't have a planer

You're going to need a planer or a drum sander to smooth them out after the glue dries. A hand plane will take significantly more effort.

It's okay that you don't have a planer, but you'll need a friend with a planer:)

Cauls ain't gonna hurt nothing. When I glue up narrow boards like that, I just spot check with a straight edge when I get the clamps on and make sure it's close to flat. Then a scraper or handplane makes quick work of getting it flat. I would advise though that if you're planning to hand plane it, try to glue up so the grain is running the same direction on all the boards. It can save you a lot of tearout and loud cursin. DAMHIKT…
