Topic tags/keywords: question pine zebrawood finishing

I am making a hope chest for my daughter for christmas I was contemplating the idea of doing some inlay probably a vine with a couple of leaves. I was thinking about using pine for the chest and probably something with great grain for the leaves to give it some design. Not really sure what to use for the vine (any suggestions will be greatly appreciated) but my question is if I used a cherry stain on the chest would it affect the inlay in a negative way or what would be a suggestion for the finish!!

the stain will change the color of you wood. Every wood species act differently in absorbing the stain.
It will affect your contrast looked of your inlay. Generally more stain will make your inlay contrast less and make your finish become more equal.

Good luck
