Topic tags/keywords: humor resource tip trick router

Yesterday was my birthday (63) and I thought I would finally mount the smaller Triton router to my router table. Everything was going fine until I removed the short screws from the baseplate and tried to mount the router with the longer screws I bought. In my excitement of finally getting this router set up I had forgotten to flip over the table mounting plate and I countersunk the holes on the WRONG side. After mumbling and grumbling and getting a cup of coffee I broke out the J-B Weld inserted small dowel pieces through the holes and filled the countersunk holes with J-B Weld. After letting it cure for about 4 hours I was able to use a sharp chisel and cabinet scraper to flatten the repair. Then I re drilled the holes through the dowels and flipped the plate over and countersunk the holes on the proper side. This did the trick! The router is now mounted and works like a charm. The J-B Weld saved me $69.00 for a new table baseplate. The moral of this story is that even Old Dogs make mistakes and that a little ingenuity can sometimes save the day.

Good recovery. I have full confidence in the abilities and ingenuity of the members of this site. You did well here.

At a construction site where I was working, I drove over a piece of 1X3 strapping which punctured the gas tank of my 1968 ford fairlane. That was 1976. I lost a tank of gas on the way home, so I stopped at a hardware store, bought some JBweld, and, right there in the store parking lot, while laying in a puddle of gas, I jammed a wad of it directly into the still-leaking gash. The next morning, in the driveway, no puddle! I put a quarter-tank of gas in, drove to work, all fine. A day later, I filled the tank. That car was since passed on to my brother, who drove it for 3 years, then sold it to his friend who drove it 7 years, before finally selling the badly rusted hulk to the junkyard. 10+ years on a patch of JB Weld…still holding when the wrecker towed it off.
