Laguna lt18 3000?

Ive been looking at bandsaws for quite a while. The other day I saw a laguna lt18 3000 on ebay for $1795. The post was from laguna, so i called them up to get the details. The sales rep told me that it was a display only saw that had been taken to a show, but that it had never been run. Great! This was one of the saws that i had been looking at so i thought I would never get a better deal. The saw also came with a mobility kit, and the optional baldor motor. I couldnt wait to get the saw into my shop.
So a few days later i get a call from UPS that they have the saw at the depot. I go and pick up the saw. When i saw the box i noticed a tear in the side, so i looked at the exposed area. Sure enough there was minor cosmetic damage to the upper front edge of the saw. Not what i wanted to see, but not unexpected. I have recieved five different pieces of equipment over the years by UPS and every piece has had some small amount of damage to it! So, I accept the saw and take it home. When I unpack the saw i find numerous scars, dents, saw marks in the aluminum guides, the upper door is bent, and saw dust in the machine! I take photos of the saw and call the sales rep at Laguna. After geting his email, i send him the pics. He was very nice about the situation. He said that he didnt realize that the saw was in that kind of condition, and that it was his fault for not cheching the saw out first. He said that they did not have any more display, or demo saws. He offered to sell me a brand new saw for $1900.00. A $100.00 more that i had paid for the first. I told him that i thought i was more or less getting a new saw the first time, and that I didnt want to put more money into an already bad deal. I told him if he could get me a new saw for the same money that would be fine. I was the told that he couldnt do that, but he would talk to the owner(who was coming back from denmark) the next day. In the mean time Laguna aranged a return of the saw, along with a full refund. That was wednesday as i write this post it is late thursday and I have not heard back from Laguna. So I would like to get the thoughts of anyone on the board. Should I pay an aditional 100bucks for the new saw, or should I look at a different Laguna saw, or should I just avoid this company all together?

I had a falling out of my own with Laguna and backed out before any money changed hands. They kind of have a…hmmm….”record” of this, if you will. A new saw for $100 more? I would. Once you get past the sale, the machine is really nice. I’d ask for some reasonable timelines and an ASSURANCE that the saw was new. I’d probably remind them of their growing reputation for this kind of nonsense, but I’d probably wait until the saw was in my shop to do it! :)

Thanks for the reply. Not sure yet what I will do. Do you have the same saw?
Also just want to say its nice that the first person I talk to on the board is a fellow west virginian!
