Topic tags/keywords: walnut resource quarantine

Interesting article. Received this from the Capital Area Woodturners and I thought some folks here may find it interesting.

Pennsylvania says it has quarantined the movement of walnut lumber into and within the state after detecting Thousand Cankers Disease for the first time, in a tree in Plumbstead Township, in Bucks County.

I hope the quarantine limits the amount of damage.

heaven forbid it become something like the Emerald Ash Borer problem here in Rochester… and most of the northeast. They cut down every single ash tree in the city last summer and you can’t transport any lumber (or firewood) more than 50 miles unless its been seasoned

Sounds like we should start researching disease resistant trees and planting them, if our grand children are
going to have inexpensive wood to work with. Inflation is bad enough on the price of wood, but if it starts
to get scarce, we are really going to be seeing some steep increases.
