Who makes high quality clock face inserts? I find many many companies on-line that offer them, but wonder is there is any particular company that is recommended.

I don’t know if they are the best, but I have been happy with my dealings with Klock-It.

I have gotten mine from klock it as well. Functional, but not sure about high quality. The hygrometers I have got from them seem a little subpar, but the clock inserts are ok.

I would follow the instructions for diameter and depth of hole. If there are no instructions, I would recommend trying it on scrap first. Seems like some come with a rubber ring for a tighter friction fit. I use forstner bits. That’s about all I can think of. Good luck.
