I hate those pop-up ads that are linked to underlined text all over the place.

In fact, I make a point to never purchase anything from one of these ads. I will even shop at a competitor’s store just because I get so anoyed by these things jumping on top of what I was reading.

Did I mention I hate them.

crank—How do you really feel them?

I think they suck.

What browser are you using? I use Firefox 5 with “better privacy” and “NoScript” add-on’s enabled and have never seen what you are complaining about.

I bounce between FireFox and Internet Explorer.

The pop-ups have been in and out … same page will be missing one that it displayed a few minutes before.

Are you sure that you don’t have some “search enhancement” garbage on your computer? Is this a general feeling about that style of advertising(I hate it too) or is there something I am missing. I am using Google Chrome and don’t see any of those here on Lumberjocks.

No, I’m not using any search enhancement technology.

Links that appeared earlier are gone now.

I use PageTweak in Firefox to control most pop-ups. Just a suggestion…

Sounds like some pretty nasty malware. And I’ve seen plenty of malware that does it. Take your computer in and have it cleaned up.

I uninstall software for this same reason. If your software pops up and nags me, you can bet I’m going with your competitor. I’m on my fifth antivirus for this reason.

I had the same problem beginning today, using Firefox 5. Following up on the tip from Toolz above, I downloaded “better privacy” and “NoScript” add-ons from Mozilla and installed them, which eliminated the double underline in-text advertising immediately. So thanks and a tip of the hat to you, Toolz!

Google Chrome plus Adblock, and I have zero popups or any other ads.

These were happening to me yesterday. Something to do with a crowd called Kontera. No, I was not happy about it, especially as it only appeared to be happening on the LJ site.

I haven’t seen them today though, and I did nothing to block them.

Hey Guys,

The in line text ads that you may be seeing are an ad product from Kontera. Yesterday, the ads appeared on the site for a short period of time to members but that was an error and they were taking down quickly. They are back in place now but only for Guests. If you are signed into LumberJocks.com you will not see these ads nor will we ever show these ads to members.

If you don’t want to see them you have two options.
1. Sign in an they will not appear.
2. Opt out of Kontera ads here

Thanks

What I hate worse? Is when a site won’t let you backpedal out of it. That infuriates me.
Cr1, as much reading as you clearly do, you must have mouse-hand;)
