Reading another thread got me thinking about ‘organizational aids’ for the shop. I constantly find myself looking for the [fill-in-the-blank], that I just had a minute ago. What I’ve noticed, is that it is most likely to be something that I use a) on pretty much every project, and/or b) at multiple workstations. I’ve also been trying to come up with some kind of ‘caddy’ for my measuring and marking tools, as they seem to be MOM (Most often Mislaid) I may have come up with a single solution for both, but I thought I’d run it through the grinder here, first. I’m thinking of buying a small tool box—big enough to hold my ‘everyday’ stuff, but with plenty of room for ‘project specific’ items too. It would contain (at least): Residents (= live here) Guests (= go ‘home’, asap) If I can just train myself to make sure that this box is always “the nearest horizontal surface”, no matter where I am in the shop, I should reduce my “tool search” time considerably. I’d rather do that online. Keep in mind that I don’t want to lug a 25# tool box wherever I go. Just a place to keep better track of my MOM items. For the sake of arguement, let’s say 600 in^3 max. (~6.75” x 6.75” x 13”). Here’s where you folks come in. What would YOU put in YOUR MOM Box??? OR Is that a windmill upon yon horizon, Sancho? -- There is nothing in the world more dangerous, than a woodworker who knows how to read a micrometer... |
