Topic tags/keywords: question

I guess this question should be directed to Martin.
I don’t mind the pop up adds. but lately sound has been added, and of course it comes on while i’m on line and wife and kids are asleep. SO WHATS THE DEAL? it’s going to drive me from this site. how does other LJ’ers feel?

Turn your speakers down?

I often browse here late at night with the kids asleep behind me, I just mute the speakers since most of this material is read. Before the kids broke the headphones I’d use those. I don’t think this is a LJ website issue. I believe the pop-ups are not from the LJ website but from pre-existing cookies on your machine, at least that’s I remember from the last time someone brought up pop-up ads.

unless things have changed, I don’t think you should be getting pop-up ads on the site.
I think this has been discussed before and the techies had some answers. Unfortunately I can’t remember what was said.

thanks Mark and MsDebbie for your input.i know i could turn down the speakers, but why should i have to adjust my way of life to make room for some advertisers. i also detest when watching TV, and a commercial comes on and the sound goes up ten desibiels. i know this sounds small… but i just must just be wierd.

this was posted by Nathan (Escalate Media) on another post:

”we never run pop up ads. If an advertiser ever comes to us and asks for pop up ads we turn them down. Right now we are only running Google Adsense which doesn’t show pop up ads at all and a few of Martin’s old ads so I’m not sure how you guys could be seeing pop ups.”

If you check the comments on the link above, I think there are several suggestions to track down the culprit.

It’s not the greatest thing, since it can affect a site’s revenues, but there are plenty of ad blockers out there. Also, I think the three major browsers, IE, Firefox, and Chrome, all prevent popups to a certain degree… unless the settings have been toyed with.

I never get pop up adds from this site (thanks guys). It sounds like you may have some computer cleaning to do.
