finding electric motor for homemade drum sander

Topic tags/keywords: home made tool used electric motor question

I want to build a drum sander, but I need a 1horse or larger electic motor 110 I was looking on the net and I’m looking at $100 dollars. I’m thinking more of a used motor for $25, or $30 I looked on craigslist no luck maybe someone has a better idea where to look. thanks Dave

try looking on craigslist for a old craftsman or ryobi tablesaw and yank the motor … i usualy see them from any where between $25 and $75 …. and if your looking for a motor to drive the belt (unless your making one that hand cranks or you push the board through) look for a free treadmill and yank that motor ….. craigslist is always full of free treadmills …

Gonecrazy those are good sugestions thanks, I was also thinking could a washmachine motor work or are the rpm’s to slow.

Maybe try old treadmills. I see them all the time for free in craigslist.

Dont forget most treadmill motors are DC. If you pull the motor get the control board as well
