Hi everyone,

The search continues for a planer and jointer to restart my workshop. I have been considering the Jet JJP-12(H), but have come across a deal on the following:

Powermatic 60B (current is 60C) knives could be replaced
Jet JWP-15CS with new knives.

The package is $1800 and both are in very good condition. They currently have 3 phase motors but the seller has agreed to replace with the original single phase motors prior to sale (or throw them in.)

Does this sound like a fair deal? This seams to be a bit less than half the price of the new comparable machines from each company and affords me the option to replace the heads with shelix if desired and still come in not too far above a new combo machine with straight knives.

I have found in the current jointer market, beggers cant be choosers! and it seams sellers of used equipment could ask even more if they wanted!

If the equipment is in good shape, I think half the price of new is in the ballpark. Ultimately, you have to decide what you’re willing to pay. It sounds like you think it’s worthwhile. If this is the equipment you’re looking for (no significant compromises) I’d go for it.

You can always check out Grizzly; frequently you can get a lot more machine for your money. You’re paying a premium for Powermatic. Only you can decide if it’s worth it. I had a horrible experience with them with an 8” jointer, but it ultimately worked out OK. My Powermatic bandsaw and mortiser were great from day one.

Thanks for the input. I have no issues with grizzly, my tablesaw is a Grizzly. Unfortunately Grizzly/shopfox is FRESH OUT of 8 inch jointer’s and do not know when more will be available. Best guess from customer service is sometime around March, but even that is not confirmed. Unfortunately – i am not that patient!

Have your say...
