There’s this recent post.

I worry that this might be starting us on a slippery slope.
How long before all tool manufacturers, wood suppliers, etc etc are posting forum topics advertising their latest sweepstakes, special offers, latest releases etc etc?
This looks a lot like someone using a back door to get free advertising – Shane does, he admits elsewhere (all credit to him), work for Festool.

Now, I can see that this potentially is an interesting post – interesting if, of course, you live in America – but is here the right place?

I suggest that, perhaps, a separate forum category might be the best solution – preferably one that each individual jock can hide, and that LJ charge companies for posting into that section?

I guess there may well be opposing views on this, but this is mine.

My apologies if this was considered spam. There did not appear to be anything in the forum rules preventing it and I have made the same post for the past 4 months without complaints. Sorry if it offended anyone.

I know that Martin frowns on free advertising ploys. I don’t know the post in question, but I doubt it was done out of any malice.

It’s NOTHING that a couple of hundred free Kapexes, track saws, and routers, strewn randomly about (ME ! MEEEEE !!) wouldn’t smooth over, in any case.

I admit it – I had to search to find out what a “Kapex” was! Oh, I can be bought off with a beer!

I think the valid discussion point here is how we can bring these offers to the LJ community in the most appropriate way. If I’d been in the US I might well have entered – and I’d have been grateful for the heads up. It’s also slightly strange that if a non-Festool employee had noticed the sweep they may well have posted a forum topic and that would have been OK.
I don’t know the answer – my original post had a coupla ideas, but I don’t think they’re great.

I post naked pictures of myself for a free Kapex.
I will offer to NOT post nude pictures of myself for a free Kapex.
My offer expires tomorrow, then I’m getting the camera ready. 12 megpixel with a macro.

Bertha I hope its not an expensive camera since you are about to break it just so you can get a free Kapex. Save the camera and us and just buy a Kapex hahahahaha
